Harvest Festivals and New Year for India in April

Happy Baisakhi, Pohela Boishakh, Bihu, Vishu, Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Bikhu, JurShital, Sattuain, Ugadi, Gudi Padva, Puthandu, Navresh and all Indian festivals that fall on Apr 13 to 15.

HAPPY NEW YEAR India :)

No, this is not for a late April Fool's day! Different parts of India celebrate these festivals. Some celebrate it as  New Year as per Indian Calendars, while others as harvest festival. Although January 1 is the New Year as per the Georgian Calendar, the Solar and Lunar calendars followed in India have different dates for New Year (I am not getting into the details of the calendars at this time).

The dates between April 13 to April 15 are certainly time to celebrate in a big or small way. Enjoy some good, healthy food and be thankful for nature's bounties and the harvest.

The picture below is of a tasty and healthy drink prepared using "chana sattu", which is flour made of roasted gram (Indian black chickpeas or bengal gram). This chana sattu flour has been mixed with water, lime or lemon juice, pink Himalayan salt and ground roasted cumin seeds. Just mix everything and it is ready. It is a traditional morning drink in many parts of Bihar, India, and is very refreshing as well as full of goodness :) .  April 14 is also celebrated as Sattuain and this was my morning drink with the traditional sattu.

Stay safe and stay healthy :)
